The Bohemian bug has hit Liberty Party Rental! If you saw our Earthy Spring Table Scape look, then you know we’ve been up to some macrame crafting! And we don’t want to keep it all to ourselves, we want to share how we made our DIY Macrame Hanging Planters!
Step 1: First you’ll need some materials! After a quick trip to our Liberty Party Rental warehouse for some of our Roly Poly Votive Candles, we scooted over to our nearest Michael’s store for some more goodies including:
-A Spool of Thick Natural Cording
-Votives & Candles
Step 2: Measure out 8 pieces of the natural cording and fold them in half. Measure based on how low you want the planter to hang and add about 6 inches of room for knots and fringe at the bottom.
Step 3: Tie a knot at the very top of the loop. You will use this loop to hang the planter.
Step 4: Pair the cords up and separate them into 4 different sections.
Step 5: Tie small knots 2/3 of the way down the cords. Make sure the knots are even on all 4 cord sections.
Step 6: Next, separate the paired cords, and pair them with a cord in the set beside it. Tie a knot to make a V shape. Do this with all of the cords and the two on the ends will also be joined by a knot so you can start creating the circle pattern for your votive to sit in.
Step 7: You can choose to repeat this knotting pattern, however, we stopped at this point and tied all of the cords together in one final knot. Clip the fringe to your desired length.
Step 8: Arrange some moss into your votive and place the candle on top. Note: DO NOT LIGHT THE CANDLE. This is a fire hazard with the moss beneath it – this is only for looks. 🙂 Then place the votive into the cording and hang!
We placed our Macrame Hanging Planters over our table scape with moss place mats! They’re great to add to your Easter table design or Spring Wedding!
Tell us how you made macrame hanging planters – we’d love to see some photos!
